Our Ethos

We want to encourage and support runners in the Tweed Valley regardless if you're a regular racer or just want to meet some friends and enjoy a social run. We encourage everyone to get their trainers on and come along.

Tuesday Training

Seniors training takes place every Tuesday night, meeting at 7pm in Peebles. A typical session consists of a warm up, a main interval session on hills or flat and then a cool down stretching session and jog. The efforts are always based on time, rather than distance to accommodate all speeds and everyone gets equal rest. The whole session takes about 1 to 1.5 hours. We mix up the terrain week to week, sometimes on the flat, sometimes on hills, on-road or off-road (depending on conditions), and on occasion on the track at Tweedbank. From October to April, a head torch is essential, and you should always come prepared for the conditions with a waterproof or warm layers (these can be taken off while doing the intervals if required as we usually return to the same spot).

Thursday Social Runs

Every second Thursday we do a social run. A nominated run leader will pick a route, advertised beforehand, and we'll meet at 7pm. The location varies so it's a good idea to either contact the run leader or member of the committee if it's your first time out. If you come regularly, check our Spond group for the details. Typically we vary routes between starting in Peebles and Innerleithen, with occasional starts in Cardrona or Eddleston. The social run is exactly as it sounds. The pace is relaxed, there is plenty of chatting (when not going uphill!), we re-group regularly, and no one is left behind. Distances tend to be about 10km and take roughly 1.5 hours (depending on how chatty we're all feeling). We often finish by going to a local pub for a quick drink afterwards (The Bridge Inn in Peebles is a regular). Most of our social runs are off-road, so you'll need appropriate trail shoes and kit for the conditions (a bum-bag or small backpack with a waterproof jacket or warm layers, is useful). And from October to April a head torch is essential.

Races

Our distinctive red and blue vests can frequently be seen representing Moorfoot Runners at local races as well as events further afield. We have members who race everything including track, cross country, hill running, road and trail races, and we often manage a spot or two on the podiums. If you’re interested in racing - either aiming to win or simply to challenge yourself - we encourage you to get involved. We organise car shares to local races so it can also be a great way to get to know your fellow members.

Parkrun

Many of our members enjoy taking part in Parkrun and you’ll often find a few of us at Peebles Parkrun in Haylodge Park each Saturday. We also organise ad-hoc trips to other local Parkruns in the area and usually incorporate a coffee and cake stop on the way home.
